Band Promo Checklist
Afton has some great ideas on marketing your band as well as information on standard professional practices.

This site is awesome! I recommend it to every band that wants pro marketing tools and in depth progress tracking methods.

Mozes is a great way to connect personally with Fan's through SMS Text Messaging!

If you want to mass market your band on myspace you have to have this program!

The Grafix Lab not only designs great promo materials, they will print your design for way less than anyone. They will beat any other offer on flier/poster printing.

Indie On The Move is a Great Touring Resource, use it when you're ready!

Here are just a few ideas that might help you to promote your gig:
- Don't rely on anyone but your self or someone you
are paying to do these things. Do not assume that the other bands are going to do these things for themselves much less you.
- Make a flier of the event.
Preferably both a paper flyer and internet/email flyer.
- A flier should include All bands playing the event.
As well as, mp3 links to each of the bands (most bands can be found on myspace or purevolume). You should also include the Date, time, ticket price and where the event will take place (The Muse/kung fu coffee,835 4th Ave. S., #615-251-0190). When choosing a theme and artwork use your imagination:
- What would you want to see?
- What will attract your fan's attention with only a brief glance?
- Make the fliers count!
Don't give your fliers to people that you know are going to throw them away. Let them know that there is valuable info on this and they should listen to the mp3 links on the flier when they get home.
- Place your fliers in places you know people will
take them i.e.:Record Stores, Coffee Shops, Schools, Bulletin Boards, in the same area as free newspapers or even in between paper towel's so when they come out of the dispenser a flier drops out too. You get the point. Hey, if you have a good promo idea you should try it, see if it works.
- If you have the money hand out samplers with your
music on them with your fliers (even if they don't come to that show, your still building fans).
- Myspace is another good place to put fliers! But it
shouldn't be the only place you put fliers (see #6). Make your flier your default pic. Also send out bulletins and make comments with your flier.
The code to place an image is : < img src ="fill in your image URL here" >
- Contact your local media!
Below are some links to places who will list your event (in Nashville). Make sure to include all the info you should have on your flier When contacting the media, you should remember that they love information, but don't go overboard. Dig up a few positive lines for each band on the show (including your own) or be creative and make up something both accurate and snazzy. Your thinking 'why should I do all this for other bands'. Well you never know how many people may know one of these other bands and not yours yet. The goal is to get as many people to your show as you can. Collectively, a full bill can draw people who have never heard of you.
